Anti-Doping Rules: In line with UK Athletics rules: An entrant shall be deemed to have made himself / herself / their self, familiar with, and agreed to be bound by the UKA Anti-Doping Rules and to submit to the authority of UK Anti-Doping in the application and enforcement of the Anti-Doping Rules. Communications
If you're on social media, follow our Facebook & Instagram pages for more updates and previews of the route. Hashtag your training pics with #marpletrail10k as we love to see them!
Feel free to contact us on 10k@marplerunners.com
Users of hotmail and gmail may find that your spam filter does not let through some of our emails to runners. It is vitally important, especially this year, that you receive all our communication to keep you up to date with any potential event changes or clarifications, so please make sure that the above email address AND 10k.marplerunners@gmail.com are set to your safe list on your spam filter.
10k Entry Costs
£16 + booking fee(*) for England Athletics affiliated runners
£18 + booking fee(*) for non-affiliated runners
* this is the fee paid to the online entry system, plus the money transfer system (which can very slightly depending on your debit / credit card). It is around £1.15. It is not refundable under any circumstances.
10k Prizes
For category winners (M&F V40-49, V50-59, and 60 & over) - to be confirmed - (we go light on prizes, our event is more about wide participation and giving value to all entrants).
10k Deferrals, Transfers & Refunds Policy
We understand that runners get injured or ill before races, but as a non-profit and volunteer run event, we need to restrict deferrals and refunds
Cost free deferral to 2024's event will be allowed up until Midnight on 2nd June 2024 (at which point we will be mailing out race numbers and timing chips). Deferrals may be made to the next year's event only and you must confirm your participation after we open entries for 2025 (probably in January 2025) by end March 2025 in order to be entered into 2025's event
We have contacted all runners who deferred from 2023's event
Entries can be transferred to another runner via the entry system (see link below) up until midnight 2nd June 2024
In the unlikely event that we are forced to cancel, we will offer free deferral or a refund of the entry fee - but we request that runners defer rather than ask for a refund (it takes an enormous amount of volunteer time to organise refunds ... and we have lives as well)
10k Course
Course map below.
(Note The Canal & River Trust team have notified us that their works at Lock 7 are unlikely to be finished in time for the race and so we are using a modified course in 2024 - with the changes being in the first couple of km. The Course is now slightly over 10k and includes extra distance in Brabyns Park, and then avoids the section of canal towpath around Lock 7. Below is a button to download the new .gpx file, a screen shot of the new route, and then a map of our usual route showing the location of car parks, the start / finish area and the 1st aid station (which are the same as normal).
Starting and finishing in beautiful Brabyns Park, then a short section of Marple canal locks, some quiet back roads and paths in Marple, past the ruins of Marple Hall and over the River Goyt into Chadkirk Country Park, up "that hill" to the Peak Forest Canal and back to Brabyns Park over the spectacular Marple Aqueduct towering 40m above the River Goyt.
This is a multi-terrain event, mostly on trails (some of which are narrow) and with some gates and steps. As such, the course is not suitable for running with buggies or dogs, both of which are prohibited.
